2008 House

Click-to-enlarge
Each year Collins Custom Builders gathers professional
subcontractors and suppliers from all over the Northern Colorado
area to build a high quality custom home with discounted and
donated materials and labor. The house is then displayed during
the Parade of Homes and sold via a silent auction at the close
of the Parade. A hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from
the sale of the home are donated to A Kid’s Place and the
Larimer County Child Advocacy Center.
This year’s home will again be built
“Green”, with a “Universal Design”, and will also be built to
withstand a tornado with up to 250 mile winds.
Please join us in our efforts and
excitement with building this home! You can watch the progress
with new photos that are added weekly
and you can vote on different amenities to the home each week as
well by visiting
www.builditforthechildren.org .
The 3rd Annual “Build It For The Children Charity House” was
auctioned September 29, 2007. The house was built under the
Universal Design/Build Green concept.

The house was appraised at $640K and was sold for
$530K. The proceeds earned A Kid’s Place and Larimer County
Child Advocacy Center $91,125 each! Thank You to
everyone whose huge efforts made this possible!!

A Kid's Place is dedicated
to making a difference in the life of
one kid at a time. Please learn about our children and consider
helping our effort - somehow, someway, you can also make a
difference. Remember, our kids are the victims of circumstances not caused
by them - they are the innocents who are caught-up in the
court-system. Please help ... it

A
Kid’s Place is Relocating
What a difference a flood makes!

News Release - printable
On the morning of August 7th
, as I read the Greeley Tribune articles on the flash
street flooding in the downtown area the night before, I quickly
got to work early to make sure A Kid’s Place was safe for the
day’s work. I was greeted at the door at 7 am by our good
neighbors at Cache Bank and Trust with the horrible news that
the lower level of the building was flooded.
The force of the water had filled a door well, collapsed the
steel entry door and filled the basement with close to two feet
of water and most of the neighborhood mulch, quickly overcoming
the ability of numerous sump pumps to keep up. The upper level
of the building had also sustained water damage, with wet
carpets in many directions. So began many weeks of earnest work
as we utilized the assistance of so many caring and amazing
volunteers to salvage what we could use and dispose of what we
couldn’t.
After many weeks
of arduous deliberation, A Kid’s Place has made the difficult
decision to leave the current downtown building, shared with
Cache Bank and Trust, for a new location at 2540 11th
Avenue. Our move is scheduled to be complete by November 1st.
We have been
fortunate in the past few months to have received so much help
when we needed it. In the first days after the flood, we were so
grateful to Cache Bank and Trust, the building owners, American
Self-Serv Storage, BDR Fire and Restoration, Versagy LLC, Brad
Shade and 100 members of the Residence Hall Association at UNC,
Chris Mullins, Deb Calvin, Dennis Lobato and sons, Det. Autumn
Dickerson from Milliken PD and friend, members of Grace Church,
Bratton’s Office Equipment, WC Youth Alternatives, and
especially staff, family members and friends who helped clean,
pack, and haul what we could.
In the ensuing
weeks, we have relocated to temporary space at United Way, the
Department of Social Services and even our own dining room
tables! We appreciate all the offers of help, space, donations,
support and patience. We especially appreciate all the hard work
from board members, staff and Friends of A Kid’s Place as we
kept all our activities going and made difficult decisions.
Our agency suffered tremendous loss
due to the flooding. The furnishings in both of our child
interview rooms, family waiting areas and many offices were lost
as well as most of our office supplies, computer equipment,
donations for children, office chairs and shelving. We are
fortunate that our agency insurance will cover most of our new
technology and clean up costs.
Other generous donations from
Kiwanis of the Rockies, Kiwanis Foundation, Trinity Episcopal
Church, Frosh LLC, Resicom, LandAmerica, and other donors have
helped as we look at the costs of relocation and replacement.
We look forward to the future and
thank all of the professionals and concerned community members
for the critical role you play in helping A Kid’s Place aid the
most vulnerable of our community’s children.
If you would
like to help, please
call our office at 353-5970
or see
below for an updated list of agency needs.
Please call ahead to drop anything off,
we will not be open at the new location until late October to
accept donations.
